DÉMIRA (Démira Jansen) is a songwriter, music producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist: she sings, plays electric/western/spanish guitar, panduri, synthesizers and works with (new) sound technologies. She took part in the TV show De Beste Singer-Songwriter van Nederland (The Best Singer-Songwriter of The Netherlands) at the age of 16. Irreversible nerve damage and hand muscle atrophy caused by a tumor in her teens resulted in a shift: producing music became a new means of catharsis. Démira was signed to Electric Lady Studios in New York City in her early twenties. She played shows at festivals and clubs throughout New York, Norway, The Netherlands, Malta, Sweden and Germany. Besides her own project, she worked on music for series and film, designs music for theatre plays (i.a. Oostpool, Walhalla, Toneelschuur), and she also writes songs for other artists in various genres. After living in New York for a few years, Démira settled down in Amsterdam where she works in her own music studio. Having a BA degree in Art History, she tries to focus on sculpting captivating audial realms inspired by visual (imaginary) worlds.
